Japanese natural stone

Oya stone is a precious finite Japanese stone material that can only be mined in the Oya district of Utsunomiya City, Tochigi Prefecture in Japan. Because it is light and soft, it is easy to process and has excellent fire resistance, it has been widely used in Japanese houses and KURA such as Japanese-style warehouses. In 1922, Oya Stone was also used in Imperial Hotel Tokyo, which was famous for the design of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and the name of Oya Stone and its recognition as a building material spread nationwide.

Story of Oya Stone

Oya Stone is said to originate from volcanic ash-like material ejected during a volcanic eruption about 20 million years ago, where it was deposited into seawater and solidified. Over time, it has been used it various ways suitable to the times.

In recent years, there has been a surge in the study of Oya Stone excellent properties diverse yet leading to a rapid increase in its demand as a material for interior decoration.

 

Oya Stone has been used in various ways since its first use as a Yokoana-shiki stone chamber (burial mounds) in the Kofun period up to the present day.

History Of Oya Stone

In 1922, the stone was used in the famous Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, designed by American architect Frank Llyod Wright. This led to the recognition of Oyastone and the nationwide spread of its use as a building material.
